A weight weenie, you know what is it ? For those that don’t, this is a cyclist who will search by any means to make his bike lighter, even if this means less confort, durability or aesthetic. Of course this activity isn’t just for an elite, and can apply to both supermarket MTB and a already light carbon bike. Today I propose providing all the weights of a Cannondale Trail SL4 that I totally disassembled for service.

Presentation

Some components aren’t stock, like the tires (some Spe on a Cannondale ??) and the cassette. Some other are so used that their actual weights are well below the original weight (grips, plates ?). Despite all of this, it gives a pretty precise idea of the weights that we can find on the lower end recreation/Cross country bikes (it’s said without disdain).

I didn’t ride this bike long enough to make a complete review, but I have some remarks to do before to go to the weights :

This bike has been bought used 370€ in June 2017. In the list of fees : dead tires, small play in the headset, dead grips, play in the crankset (spider to be replaced). From the little that I rode it, I can say this is a really fun bike, proof that even with this budget (and probably a little less), we can find great bikes.

The choice of this bike has been mainly motivated by the frame, that presents some generous and complex tube sections, as well as polished welds. Finally the paint color gives the bike an attractive appearence.

And now for the bad points, I would say the wheelset is the weak point. First they are heavy. Then they lack stiffness and it helps the wheel to get untrue. Of course it’s quite normal to have this regarding the price. However I think this would be the first part to be upgraded.
